There are many fundraisers happening in September. In my internet research, I found over a dozen charities with September as their awareness month. I am going to highlight just a few of the charities that are bringing to light many different issues.

National Recovery Month
Recovery Month celebrates people who are in recovery, and also spreads the message about the recovery process. Recovery Month also spotlights different providers and the message of prevention. Some of the events planned for the month of September are Facebook pledges, wellness campaigns, and a host of other events worldwide.

National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
On September 1st, The White House issued a release, stating that September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. There are events planned throughout the country. One of the ways to support this cause is to set up an Alex Lemonade Stand. Children will like the idea of getting involved with a fun project, and learn a valuable lesson at the same time.

Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon
In keeping with tradition, the MDA telethon will start broadcasting Labor Day weekend. If you have watched in the past, you know the telethon goes on for almost a day. Well, they changed the telethon format; it will only be six hours long going forward. The telethon will also tweet from behind the scenes, and provide Facebook updates. MDA raised 58.6 million dollars in the past.

National Sickle Cell Month
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have declared September Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Because Sickle Cell affects so many people, there is a need to bring attention to this disease. Some of the issues surrounding Sickle Cell are medical treatment, infection prevention and funding for clinical studies.

National Alzheimers Week – third week in September, Migraine Awareness Week – first week in September, National Stroke Week –second week in September, National Cholesterol Education Month, and so many more.
